Adventures in 3D Scanning

What's next after building a 3D printer? A 3D scanner! In this picture, our friend Dez experiments with ideas for mapping a surface using a turntable, projector, and a TV test pattern generator.

Thanks, Dez and Chris!

The other day, members Dez and Chris pulled out their tool belts for a team effort and assembled another bench for the shop. The wooden stool in front is courtesy our friend Chuck, the best scrounger we've ever met. Thanks guys!

Hackforge at Build a Dream

HackforgeVolunteers

On May 14th, Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc, Workforce Windsor Essex, Greater Essex County District School Board, Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board, Conseil Scolaire Catholique Providence and St. Clair College hosted the Build A Dream Event.

The event highlighted opportunities in a number of careers to better assist youth in making career choices and provided an opportunity for families to come out and learn more about careers in the growing sectors. Over 130 young high school women attended to explore future careers in science, technology, engineering, math and the skilled trades.

At the event was Hackforge’s Christopher Deschamps who can be pictured above showing off the capabilities and the potential of 3D printing.

Thank you Chris for representing us so well and thanks to the organizers of the Build a Dream event for having us.

Maptime was a good time!

Maptime  is a collection of beginner-focused community groups for learning  geospatial technology, techniques, and concepts, particularly using open  source tools and hands-on practice and exercises. But Maptime  is also an important idea: it shouldn’t be so hard to learn, and we have  the power to make it easier – and teach ourselves in the process” : from http://lyzidiamond.com/posts/why-maptime/

We had our first Maptime WindsorEssex meetup today! It was dedicated to Open Street Map. Here’s some of the stuff we shared:
