Intro to HTML: Coding Class for Women
Thursday, April 7th: 6:30-8:30PM
Get the fundamentals down for this practical and simple coding language. This is a great introduction for anyone who wants to get started with code. Bring your laptop!

Computer Girls is coding classes for women by women. In partnership with Women’s Enterprise Skills Training (WEST) and funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, these classes are taught by female professional computer programmers with the aim to get more women interested in coding.

Electronics Club: Ask An Electronics Nerd

Wondering how to get started with electronics? How to get your project to actually work? Where to order parts? How to make your killer robot obey you?

Join the Electronics Club for a question and answer with experienced electronics hobbyists. This event is great for anyone who wants to get started with electronics, like artists, hobbyists, cosplayers.

You’re invited to the first meeting of Hackforge’s DIY Audio Electronics Club! Open to members and the general public, the inaugural meetup will include:

  • First group project: headphone amplifier kit. Each participant will have the option to purchase and assemble the kit at a future meeting.

Hack the Afternoon: Map the River Walk with Photos

 

Saturday, February 27th, join Hackforge (255 Ouellette Ave) from 2-5PM for a Hack the Afternoon. A free workshop forbeginners to pros, learn how to map Windsor’s Riverfront Sculpture Park walk. We’re creating a map full of photos (personal and archival) that explore Windsor’s Detroit River walk in a visual, interactive way.

Beginners: Learn how to customize Google Maps with photo mapping for your future vacations or other projects.

Developers: Dig deeper with how to manipulate map data in different formats and use it in your project. We’ll be working with QGIS and moving mapping data between various platforms.

What to Bring: Laptop, any photos you have (digital or physical) of the Sculpture Park, riverfront trail or shoreline to contribute to put in on the map.

Share your photos electronically with Hackforge (@Hackforge).

Hack the Afternoon is in collaboration with the City of Windsor, in preparation for the 2016 w.a.v.e.s. Festival. This event is supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation through Open Data Windsor Essex.

“Write Your First Line Of Code” Day

On Saturday, January 30th, Hackforge (255 Ouellette) invites the people of Windsor to write their first line of code. From 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, people can drop into the space, sit with a programmer at a computer and type out a few instructions in a coding language. This event is free and family friendly event.

This event aims to expose those outside the tech industry to the vast world of computer science. The goal is to demystify coding, meet programmers, and give some insight into how programming helps builds the world around us. For those looking to learn more, the day will also offer an Intro to HTML class for women and Hands-on With Ruby on Rails class.

Drop In
9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Throughout the day, come by Hackforge to write your first line of code! Sit with a professional computer programmer for 5 minutes and learn some basics before you write out your first command.

3D Printing Demonstration
9:30AM – 12:00PM
As you stop in, check out the demo of this exciting technology by our friends at Kelcom 3D Printing.

Software Guild’s Hands-on with Ruby on Rails Workshop
12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Bring your laptop down and start learning Ruby on Rails right from the beginning. We’ll take you through the process of creating an app like Twitter with one of the easiest platforms around for learning and getting a web-app up and running quickly.
Registration is required – Previous HTML knowledge preferred – Bring your own Laptop!

Free Face Painting

Bring the kids down so they can try out some kid-friendly coding exercises and get their face painted!

Computer Girls’ Free Intro to HTML Class for Women
4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Ever wanted to learn to code? This free class will give you an intro to HTML, the basic language used to create web pages. Designed for working women and taught by professional female developers, this class will help you get started in the world of coding. This program is brought to you by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Registration is required – No previous coding experience needed – Bring your own laptop!

Maptime Windsor: Missing Maps
Thursday, January 21: 6-8PM
Maptime Windsor is looking at the Missing Maps project. The goal of this project is to map the most vulnerable places in the developing world, in order that international and local NGOs, and individuals can use the maps and data to better respond to crises affecting the areas.

Missing Maps is a global initiative and everyone from beginners to experts can help map. Whether you are coming to contribute or just learn more, Maptime is for everyone!
Please bring along a laptop to participate.

Hackforge Electronics Club Presents: Intro to Arduino Workshop
Saturday, January 23: 2-5PM
Learn about this open-source electronic prototyping platform in a hands-on workshop. Registration cost includes an Intro to Arduino kit which you can take home!
No electronics or coding experience required. Please bring along a laptop.
