Join us for a night of board games and card games from 6-10PM. This event is free and open to everyone. If you’re new to board games, we encourage you to come by as we will have trusty Hackforgers there to help get you started.

Trapped inside an electronic arena, where love and escape do not compute!
The first on our movie fundraisers, join us for the classic sci-fi flick, Tron. Admission is 10$ going directly to Hackforge programming and community workshop.

Software Craftsman Guild – Wednesday, July 22 @ 7-9PM
The group for programmers meets again at the end of July.

Windsor is lagging behind the provincial average for information and communication technology jobs. We are training new workers, but post-graduation, they leave town. How do we create a tech friendly city? How do we keep our young tech workers in Windsor?

As part of Windsor180 Week, join Hackforge for a frank conversation, panel discussion on the benefits and struggles of creating a tech hub in Windsor.

This event is open to the public, free, and all ages. There will be a bar open during the event.

DIY Security System Workshop

Thursday, June 11, 2015: 6PM – 8PM
Hackforge (255 Ouellette)

In this beginner-level workshop, Doug Sartori will walk through the hardware and software required to set up a low-cost DIY security camera system.

You will leave with a high-level understanding of the options available and the steps involved in building a security system using an old PC and Linux.

Part 1: Installation (6-7PM)
Part 2: Setup and configuration (7-8PM)

We’ll cover the following topics:

– The installation process for Ubuntu Linux
– The steps required to convert a new Ubuntu install into a ZoneMinder device
– Camera hardware options
– Setting up Zoneminder for remote access, motion detection and email alerts
– Disk space and performance considerations

This workshop is designed for beginners with step-by-step instructions.

Hackforge Swap Trade at the New Space!

Hackforge has moved to 255 Ouellette Ave and need to stock our new home. This Saturday, June 6th from 11AM – 3PM, we’re asking you for donations of tools, equipment, and electronics. Past the donations to Hackforge, come swap your items for parts and equipment others have brought in. This is a free event.

BRING a few items to donate (list below)
DONATE the item(s) to Hackforge
OR
SWAP your tool/equipment/electronic for a different tool/equipment/electronic

 

DONATIONS TO HACKFORGE NEEDED:

  • Small form-factor laptops (no desktop computers or printers, please!)
  • Toolboxes
  • Webcams
  • multimeters
  • Test equipment
  • Soldering Irons
  • Power-supplies
  • Hand tools (gently used)
  • Light Power Tools (great condition)

PLEASE BRING:
Any kind of small equipment, tools, and electronics to swap, similar to the list above. Please DO NOT bring household items, clothing, books. Equipment, tools, and electronics ONLY.

LARGE ITEMS:
Please email info@hackf.org if you would like to donate any of these items

  • sturdy stools (for the workbenches)
  • small wheeled cart, similar to the AV projector carts
  • Shelving
  • Laser cutter
