Windsor is lagging behind the provincial average for information and communication technology jobs. We are training new workers, but post-graduation, they leave town. How do we create a tech friendly city? How do we keep our young tech workers in Windsor?
As part of Windsor180 Week, join Hackforge for a frank conversation, panel discussion on the benefits and struggles of creating a tech hub in Windsor.
This event is open to the public, free, and all ages. There will be a bar open during the event.
Thursday, June 11, 2015: 6PM – 8PM Hackforge (255 Ouellette)
In this beginner-level workshop, Doug Sartori will walk through the hardware and software required to set up a low-cost DIY security camera system.
You will leave with a high-level understanding of the options available and the steps involved in building a security system using an old PC and Linux.
Part 1: Installation (6-7PM)
Part 2: Setup and configuration (7-8PM)
We’ll cover the following topics:
– The installation process for Ubuntu Linux
– The steps required to convert a new Ubuntu install into a ZoneMinder device
– Camera hardware options
– Setting up Zoneminder for remote access, motion detection and email alerts
– Disk space and performance considerations
This workshop is designed for beginners with step-by-step instructions.
Hackforge has moved to 255 Ouellette Ave and need to stock our new home. This Saturday, June 6th from 11AM – 3PM, we’re asking you for donations of tools, equipment, and electronics. Past the donations to Hackforge, come swap your items for parts and equipment others have brought in. This is a free event.
